Who We Are

Who We Are:    We are a United Methodist Faith Community that is intentional about developing and building authentic relationships. For us it’s all about being in community together.

What We Believe: We believe in One God (Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer aka Father, Son, Holy Spirit) who created all things good. We believe God has always desired to be in a intimate, loving relationship with ALL of us.  We believe God's grace is available to ALL people.  We believe God came in flesh through Mary as the Holy Spirit placed the seed of life in her and God (Jesus) lived among humanity teaching us how to live and love. As a final act of love Jesus went to the cross for all of us, died and resurrected. We believe the Bible is a living roadmap on how we as followers of Christ are called to live. It is central to our faith and our teachings.

How We Began:   Memorial UMC which is was our home site used to be a traditional church congregation that worshiped each Sunday, sang hymns, prayed The Lord’s Prayer, and heard the Word. It had become stagnant over time and the people in the pews did not reflect the community in which we were located. In an attempt to reach the community in May of 2017 we began a food pantry to help neighbors in need along with a library with the idea of feeding people (body and mind) which we named Soul Cafe. As we got to know the community we realized many had a yearning to feed their spirit and so Soul Café Supper & Service was birthed January 3, 2018.  Magnolia UMC had a similar story and so in September 2018 we launched the same concept. Since our launch we have connected with over 2000 people.

We want ALL people to feel welcome and know they can come just as they are. We want ALL people to know they have a seat at the table. We want ALL people to know they are of sacred worth. We purposefully do church around a dinner table because we feel it allows for people to interact and connect in a way church pews cannot.

What We See in the Future:   We are a church plant, have built this from the ground up and we continue to discern where God is leading us.  As the pandemic hit, we were forced to redirect our efforts and focus on meeting the basic needs of the community but we have remained focused on  connecting with the community and building relationships. We are now in the process of transitioning back to the table. We continue to seek God’s direction and welcome ALL to be a part of this.
